Discipleship Ridge Church is a very different type of Church, especially as you compare it to the Church down the street that has a building. First of all, we have no building. And we like it that way. No building equals no mortgage and no up keep. This intentionally keeps us small and small group driven. Having said that, we meet weekly at someone's home, sing songs, pray together, share weekly ups and downs, and of course eat a meal together. Simply put, together we want to love God and one another in very intentional ways.
We don't go to church...
We ARE the church!
Another rhythm of Discipleship Ridge is service. The very first followers of Jesus became disciples by following the best servant of all time. We highly value all serving. Each Home Church is free to serve whoever they wish but once a month all the homes come together for a larger project.
What about theology? The best way to describe how we function as a Church is to say we are Evangelical Lutherans-Bible believing Christ followers who get crazy once in a while, but only if everyone's eyes are closed. Thus, because Pastor John is the pastor of Discipleship Ridge, and because he was trained in a Lutheran Seminary, and because he is on the clergy roster of the LCMC (Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ), Discipleship Ridge Church will embrace the following:
Currently, there are three home Churches meeting: one in Eden Prairie, one in Richfield and one in New Hope. The Eden Prairie Gathering occurs at Pastor John & Jill Brecount's home on Wednesday nights starting at 6:00 p.m. (6775 Marsh Ridge Court); the Richfield gathering occurs at Brian & Shelly Peter's home (7545 Freemont Ave South); the New Hope gathering occurs at David & Anita Hill's home (6056 West Broadway Avenue). As Jesus blesses Discipleship Ridge, there may be well over a dozen home Churches part of this congregation.
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
Matthew 18:20 ESV
